Volunteer Opportunities

As per district policy, all volunteers who will be working with students:

  • must complete a background check
  • must check in at the front desk
  • must wear a mask
  • must show proof of vaccination

Thank you.

The many programs and events put on by Northwood PTA are made possible by YOU - our incredible volunteers!

Volunteer opportunities run the gamut from planning a PTA event to coming in for a monthly library shift to spending an hour at home supporting a one-time project.

There are volunteer opportunities large and small - we are grateful for anything you can offer!

Seeking Event Chairs for Next Year

Is there a Northwood event or program for which you’d love to be a part of its success? Or, do you have an idea for a program you would love to introduce to Northwood families? Northwood PTA is seeking volunteers to coordinate the following events and programs for the 2023-2024 school year:

You can sign up to get more information and volunteer here.

  • Fall Festival - A fun party of games and crafts set up during the school day to celebrate Fall! Students visit the festival with their classmates and teacher in costume (optional) to play, have fun and enjoy.

  • Girls on the Run Coach - An afterschool program where trained volunteer coaches inspire girls to build confidence and other important life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and physical activity. Girls on the Run provides all the coaching materials and lessons.

  • Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day - An event that occurs in the fall and once again in the spring. Students are encouraged to walk, bike, ride their scooter or take the bus to school! In a typical year, the morning involves simple breakfast snacks, music and fun!

  • Family Art or Science Fun Night - Families are invited to join in for a night of science or art fun! Science Fun Night is a science fair alternative that provides a hands-on night of fun activities. Family Art Night is an evening where parents and children can participate in an art project together. Science or art experience is not required of the parent volunteers. This is just a night to enjoy creating art or exploring science with your kids! NOTE: Science Fun Night and Family Art Night alternate each year. As it has been years since either event was held, which event takes place next year is still undecided (and very dependent on who volunteers!).

  • Marketplace - Participating students develop a business plan, create a product, market and sell the product at a school-wide fair, using “Northwood dollars.” Students will have an opportunity to learn about economics and commerce while putting their communication and math skills into action, all while having so much fun! NOTE: Marketplace takes place every other year.

  • Multicultural Night - An evening to celebrate the  diversity of our community! In a typical year, individual or teams of families will host booths representing various countries around the world, and/or showcase a feature of their culture during an evening of performances on the gym stage! The night features festive food samples, and passports for the kids to fill out. A high-energy, fun-filled evening!

  • Community Service - Each Fall and Spring, Northwood PTA participates in a community service project. In the past, we've done a Thanksgiving Turkey drive benefiting families partnered with Friends of the Children Seattle, as well as a school supplies drive for students returning to the classroom in South Seattle during the pandemic.

  • PTA Social Media Posts - Do you love Instagram and Facebook? Would you like to create fun posts to help share updates and help PTA connect with Northwood families? Graphic design experience not required. Check out our Instagram feed or Facebook page

  • Video Editor - From time to time, PTA will create a video project to share with the school community such as a year-end video for our graduating 5th graders, or our 2022 summer project: A Virtual Video Tour of the Northwood Campus! If you have experience with video editing and would love to help, please let us know!

Our community and programs are only as strong as our parent volunteers. We are grateful for the enthusiastic support we’ve seen from the Northwood community. Let’s keep it going!
