Northwood Clubs & Activities

There are a number of opportunities for students to learn new skills, gain leadership experience and socialize with other Northwood students.

Student Council (Grades 4 & 5)

Student Council will consist of 2 representatives from each fourth and fifth grade class. These students will act as a voice for their peers while helping build a strong community.  They will be involved in decision making and projects at Northwood and in the local community. These students will also be in charge of sharing information around the school and getting the younger grades involved.

Teacher Leaders:  Heidi Clark, Instructional Coach

Student Green Team (All Grades)

Green Team is a group of students who will lead the school in green initiatives like recycling, planting, and reducing our footprint.  Each classroom will be participating in green team initiatives within their own classroom (such as recycling) and there will be a school-wide initiative that will include third, fourth, and fifth grade students.

Meeting times will be determined at a later date once other schedules are put into place. This will either take place before or after school.  There will also be other meetings which parents and interested community members may attend.

Teacher Leader:  Janel Foss, Paraprofessional

Safety Patrol (Grade 5)

Safety Patrol is a service group whose main purpose is to serve the Northwood community by keeping pedestrians and drivers safe.  Safety patrol is open to fifth grade students who are at least 10 years old. The safety patrol student volunteers provide before and after school crossing help at the supervised crosswalks and in the parking lot.

All training is provided and the program has a teacher coordinator. Training begins at the end of fourth grade and the start of fifth grade. Student volunteers will need to devote time before or after school helping pedestrians to be safe when crossing the crosswalks (regardless of weather!)

Teacher Leader:  Lindsay Oliveira, 4th grade teacher

Grown-Ups Recess  (All Grades)

Join your student(s) on the playground throughout the school year for Grown-Ups Recess and Lunch. Caregivers and other special guests, are invited to join us for lunch and/or recess on the first Thursday of each month. Visitors must pre-register and complete all volunteer training and forms prior to joining your students for lunch and then transitioning outside to PLAY!
