Northwood Spotlight: Jennifer Harper
3rd Grade Teacher
Where are you originally from and what brought you to Mercer Island schools?
I am a Seattle native! I have worked in the corporate world for about 20 years. I have raised twin girls and feel passionate about education. During COVID, I decided to leave the corporate world and get my master’s in education. I am a first-year teacher and loving it!
Where is your favorite place to vacation?
Seabrook! I have traveled all over the world but when it comes to a vacation,
my favorite thing to do is relax in nature and read a book! Seabrook is on the pacific coast and its beach is perfection. I have been here in summer and winter, and it never disappoints. I loved to walk the beach, hike around the trails, and visit the bookshop in town.
What is the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
I flew to Africa on my 40 th birthday, solo, and climbed Kilimanjaro. That was surreal and by far the most adventurous and exciting thing I’ve ever done.
Tell us about your immediate family and pets.
The Harper clan is a busy clan. My husband Mark (22 years Microsoft) and I are busy raising twin 14-year-old girls that just started high school. It’s all school, dance, and volleyball in this house. Not only that, but we also have a 12-year-old Golden Retriever Jambo, a 7-year-old Golden Retriever Joy, and our newest pup Carl the Corgi.
