Northwood Spotlight: Missy Harvold
Library Teacher

A warm welcome to a dynamic new member to our school this year, Missy Harvold, who is taking on the role of Library Media Specialist. While most of us know her as "that library lady," her role is so much more than that. So, let’s dive in and get to know Mrs. H a little better.

A Journey into Education

Hailing from Prosser, WA, Mrs. H now calls Carnation her home. She switched from an administrative role to the library and classroom setting to achieve a better work-life balance. With a teaching career that began in 2004, she brings a wealth of experience across different grades and subjects. Her expertise spans from teaching grades 9-12 in East Valley (Yakima) to grades 6-8 in both Mattawa and Kent. She's also taught library skills to students in grades K-12 in Carnation and Duvall.

More Than Just Books

When she's not curating our library's collection or inspiring a love of reading in our students, Mrs. H has many hobbies. She's an avid video gamer, loves swimming, and even makes her own candles. She's also a cookie-baking aficionado and participates in fantasy football leagues.

Have you tried any of Mrs. H’s favorite ways to unwind?

When it comes to recharging, Mrs. H loves vacationing anywhere with water and a beach. Her favorite destination? Costa Rica!

Little Things Matter

Small joys go a long way in Mrs. H’s life. She cherishes the smiles and snuggles from her dog, Freya, to brighten her day.

Family and Furry Friends 🐶

Last but certainly not least, let's talk about her heart—the family. Married for 23 years to her husband, Brian, they have three grown children: Isaiah Ryder (28), Taegan Marie (22), and Thane (20). Each of them is "adulting happily," according to Mrs. H.

We're thrilled to have Mrs. H as part of our community. We look forward to the extraordinary ways she will contribute to our students' intellectual and emotional growth this year.

P.S. If you see Mrs. H in the hallway, make sure to give her a warm Northwood welcome!
