Northwood Spotlight: Marisa LeVeque

5th Grade Teacher

Where are you originally from and what brought you to Mercer Island schools?

I am originally from Bellevue, Washington. My aunt taught 4th-grade at West Mercer for many years and it was my dream to teach on Mercer Island! I began leading Young Life on the island and hoped to both volunteer and teach in the same community.

What grade/area do you teach/support and how long have you been in education?

I teach 5th grade and am affectionately referring to this school year as my “golden year” of teaching- my 10th year teaching 10-year-olds! I taught at West Mercer for three years and have taught 5th grade at Northwood since it opened. I love teaching 5th graders!

What is your favorite sport or hobby to do when you are not at school?

I love to read, hike, dance, workout, travel, and spend as much time as possible with family and friends! I especially enjoy game nights and dinner parties with friends.

Where is your favorite place to vacation?

I try to visit Disneyland every year if I can! It truly is the happiest place. But I will also gladly vacation in Hawaii and Italy if given the opportunity!

What are some small things that make your day better?

Coffee, chocolate, hugs, and kind words or cards from kiddos!

What is your favorite band or artist to listen to?

My class will tell you that I looove music! You can usually find me listening to John Mayer, Justin Bieber, or Harry Styles. I am also listening to a lot of Taylor Swift these days to prepare for her  tour this summer!
