Northwood Spotlight: Molly Harnish

I am the teacher librarian at NW. This is my 23rd year teaching in MISD. This is my 3rd yr as a librarian and I taught 2nd grade at WM for 20 yrs! 

 

Where are you originally from and what brought you to Mercer Island? 

 

I grew up in Tacoma - not very far away! My brother is a counselor at MIHS ( for 25 yrs) and recommended I apply at the MISD elementary schools when I first graduated from college, so I did, and got hired and have been here ever since!

 

Tell me about your immediate family and pets. 

 

I have an adorable 14 lb Yorkie Terrier Mix dog named Gilly, who is a rescue dog. She is my 6 yr old fur- baby and I lovingly call her Gilly-Bean! She is the love of my life! See photo! 

 

 

What is your favorite sport or hobby to do when you are not at school? 

 

Gilly and I love to do dog- agility classes together on weekends. We run through obstacle courses with tunnels, jumps, balance beams, teeter-totters, tire- swings and Gilly may be small but she is fast! In the summer I like to kayak. 

 

Where is your favorite place to vacation? 

 

The beach or the desert! I love sun, sand and water! Relaxing is my favorite way to spend a vacation. Scottsdale AZ, and Hawaii are at the top of my list!

 

 

Bruce Springsteen! I’ve been a devoted BOSS FAN for more than 24 years and have traveled all over the US and Canada to see him when he’s on tour with The E Street Band.
