Northwood Spotlight: Lindsay Oliveira
4th Grade Teacher

Where are you originally from and what brought you to Mercer Island?

I am originally from Federal Way, WA, so not far from Mercer Island. While in college, I rowed crew for Pacific Lutheran University. We stayed at a crew member's family house on Mercer Island one night before an early morning competition the next day at UW. I remember driving around on the island and seeing the bus drivers wearing Mercer Island gear and thinking that this must be some special community. A few years were spent pursuing my dream job of teaching on MI, and I forever thank that crew mate of mine for hosting us on the island.

Tell us about your immediate family and pets.

My husband Mike is an AP US History teacher at Interlake High School in Bellevue. We are both teaching nerds and absolutely love being in the field of education (and don't mind having similar breaks to travel and unwind together). Our daughter Addison is 2 years old and will be a Northwood Owl once she gets to kindergarten age.

What is your favorite sport or hobby to do when you are not at school?
I love anything related to the University of Washington. We are season ticket holders for UW football, and also enjoy going to UW softball and baseball games. UW football is pretty much our life every fall! I also love to run and workout, travel, and hike and camp.

Where is your favorite place to vacation?
I love to vacation at Suncadia or to go to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Being in the mountains, or near a lake, and with dry pine trees makes me so happy!

What is the most adventurous thing you've ever done?
Become a parent! And begin the potty training adventure with our little sweetie.
