Northwood Spotlight: Victoria Vermiglio
5th Grade Teacher
What grade do you teach and how long have you been teaching?
I currently teach 5th grade at Northwood. I have been a part of the 5th grade team for three years now and I love it! Before teaching on Mercer Island I spent a year in Seattle teaching a 4/5th grade split class. The year before that I taught kindergarten in Wisconsin. I love being around all ages of students and am happy I was able to get a chance to work in multiple grade levels.
Where are you originally from and what brought you to Mercer Island?
I am originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In elementary school, I moved frequently around the US before settling in northern Wisconsin for middle and high school. After high school I moved back to Milwaukee for college. I moved to Seattle about four years ago just for adventure. I love traveling and enjoyed visiting Seattle, so I decided to move here. It’s absolutely beautiful here, I love Mercer Island, and am so glad that I’m able to be a part of the Northwood community!
What is your favorite sport or hobby to do when you are not at school?
When I am not at school I enjoy going on walks, hiking, and exploring Seattle’s restaurants. I love going for long walks on the beach or through my neighborhood because it allows me to calm my mind while getting in some light exercise. I also enjoy hiking and exploring Washington’s vast amount of scenic hikes. It’s a great way to spend a Saturday morning in my eyes! Lastly, I love to eat! I am not a picky eater and love trying new cuisines and restaurants in the area.
What is something you've been meaning to try but haven't gotten around to it?
Something I’ve been meaning to try but haven’t gotten around to is baking. I love to cook and try out new recipes. When I was a child my mom would bake every Sunday and I loved helping her. It has been on my radar for a long time but I just haven’t been able to find the time lately to try to out any recipes. Hopefully the winter will bring some down time so I can get some baking done!
